QMF

Queensland Music Festival (QMF) will bring together the best of local, national and international talent in Brisbane and state-wide from 7-30 July. The 2017 program will showcase original performances across the spectrum of music genres and styles in Brisbane’s major venues such as QPAC, Brisbane Powerhouse and popular outdoor venues. One of our favourite events during the festival is Opera at Jimbour which is staged in the grounds of the picturesque Jimbour House – a perfect day trip for Brisbane music lovers.

For full details, visit the QMF website

2017 Festival overview!

Under Artistic Director Katie Noonan, the 2017 QMF program is as diverse as this great state – showcasing some of the most talented local, national and international musicians across 100 performances, including seven world premieres.

The Festival will offer Queenslanders the chance to hear and be heard, with a rich tapestry of musical experiences designed to uncover and empower young musicians, bring quality music to regional communities, and shed light on current social issues.

For classical music lovers program highlights include a performance of The Merry Widow at the ever-popular Opera at Jimbour beside the picturesque Jimbour House. Sanctuary – a moving concert experience exploring the concept of sanctuary and refuge, led by Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra and including a world premiere commission from brilliant pianist and composer Joe Chindamo.

Contemporary music will be featured throughout the Festival with some of the biggest and best names on the local and national scene hitting the stage. Deborah Conway, Clare Bowditch and Hannah Macklin will perform the songs that have inspired them at the Tivoli in Songs that Made Me.

This year’s Festival is not just about bringing music to audiences – you are invited to get involved too! QMF is passionate about working with communities to inspire creativity, ignite artistic potential and collaborate on musical projects that will live on long after the final notes have sounded.

As part of You’re the Voice thousands of choir members from around the state will come together (live and via video-streaming) at 5pm on Saturday 29 July with QMF Artistic Director Katie Noonan, Kate Ceberano and recent Eurovision Grand Finalist Isaiah to sing John Farnham’s powerful anthem and to help raise awareness of the domestic violence crisis in Australia. Register to join the sea of voices.

Iconic Australian artists Archie Roach, Troy Cassar-Daley and Montaigne have joined forces with Katie Noonan, Kate Ceberano and Isaiah to sing ‘You’re the Voice’ on a charity single to raise funds to support young people who are victims of domestic violence. The single is available on iTunes with all profits received by the Sony Foundation being donated to DVConnect who provide 24/7 crisis response in Queensland for those living with domestic or family violence. You can help turn the tide on domestic violence and buy the single here.

For The Power Within QMF will be working with the local community to create a brand-new musical spectacular celebrating life in the coalfields of the Isaac region.

The QMF education program is well-known and will continue this year with a range of projects to inspire music makers of the future. On Song will see acclaimed singer-songwriter Jack Carty sharing his songwriting know-how with young aspiring musicians in regional Queensland, while Score IT! has us on the hunt for the screen composers of the future.
